Impact

Booking with An Turas Heritage Expeditions will support Scottish rewilding charity Trees for Life.

Trees for Life is a well-established charity organisation whose aim is to rewild the Scottish Highlands throughout the regeneration of the native Caledonian Forest which once covered much of the Highlands.

By supporting Trees for Life, An Turas Heritage Expeditions hopes to help engage visitors with the rewilding work that is happening across Scotland and promote a healthier environment for both wildlife and communities.

Our commitment is to donate 5% of our net profits to Trees for Life each year. Learn more at treesforlife.org.uk.

Local Guides

We only use local guides. This helps to ensure that the money you spend on your tour supports the guides who live and work in the destinations we offer. It also means you get the benefit of true local knowledge and cultural insight.

Leave No Trace

We work to the principles of Leave No Trace. Simply put this means we aim to take away only memories and leave behind only footprints. We endeavour to leave locations as we found them, making as little physical impact on the destination as possible.

Education Through Travel

Our local guides live and breathe Scotland and Ireland and all that these beautiful countries have to offer. On your tour you can expect to come away with a much broader knowledge of our unique history and cultures, the natural environment, land management and conservation. We believe that having a better understanding of all of these things encourages our travellers to respect our unique culture and environment.

Respecting Wildlife

We do not offer any type of hunting or fishing activities on our tours.

Wildlife will only be viewed from a safe distance, meaning we do not cause any disturbance. We only work with suppliers and guides who will always be respectful to our native wildlife, on land and at sea. We encourage our travellers to show wildlife the same respect.

Slower Travel

With An Turas there is no cramming in as much as possible. We want our travellers to slow down and get under the skin of the destination. We always recommend a minimum of 2 nights in each location, but 3 or 4 nights is better. Unlike a standard sightseeing tour we won’t drive around seeing as many hotspot sights as possible in one day. We’ll take our time, promoting an environment of discovery, inspiration and relaxation; isn’t that what vacations should be about?

Carbon Reduction

We work with suppliers and local operators who are committed to reducing their carbon emissions. We use electric vehicles on trips where practical.

By supporting Trees for Life in reforestation projects in Scotland, we aim to support the removal of carbon from the atmosphere.

Locally Owned Supplier

Where possible we work with locally owned accommodations and activity suppliers.

No Coach Tours, No Cruises, No Large Groups

We believe that running private tours of couples and small groups helps to ensure that more money per head is spent in local communities. Small numbers also means a reduction in the negative impact on the localities, which in some cases may suffer from over tourism.
